Why I Am Running
My husband and I met in Jefferson County, got married here, had our children here, bought a house here, and three years ago convinced my parents to move from Tucson, AZ into a house down the street. We are choosing to live here and are committed to Jefferson County. I am running because I want to make sure it remains a place that I want to continue to live and raise my family.
I am also running because I feel that if I am not willing to make the effort of campaigning and being a county commissioner then I can’t expect others to do it, and then we end up getting what we get, which I haven’t been too happy with. A strong local community must have engaged citizens who demand that their leaders have a vision and a means to implement it. What do we want our county to look like in 10, 20, 50 years? The decisions we make today will affect our quality of life in the future.
This county is at a crossroads. In one direction, we have the opportunity to harness the resourcefulness and innovation of the people here to create the future we want, creating vibrant local economies, supporting local farmers, and protecting our historic and environmental assets. I am willing to take a leadership role to make that vision happen. In the other direction, we become yet another bedroom community of Washington D.C. with the resulting traffic jams, strip malls, environmental degradation and a diminishment of our unique community character. That is not the future I want, and I hope that those of you who agree will join me in my efforts.
